Ever since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was officially announced, and some incredible game play footage revealed for it, the fans have been asking the big question. Where is the voice of David Hayter? He isn't doing the role for Solid Snake as he always has?, you've got to be kidding me. It really has been a public outrage over the matter, and hell hath no fury like a Metal Gear Solid fan's scorn. Hideo Kojima responded with some statements in regards to Hayter not doing Snakes voice this time around. Here is some of what he stated when asked about it recently.
“What we’re trying to accomplish here is [to] recreate the Metal Gear series. It’s a new type of Metal Gear game and we want to have this reflected in the voice actor as well.”
David Hayter himself gave a reasonably longer statement, more like a long goodbye letter to the world regarding his own thoughts about leaving the world of Solid Snake. After all, he has performed Snake's voice ever since the first Metal Gear Solid landed in our living room back in 1998 on the PS1. That role has stuck ever since, all the way up to Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker made its debut in 2010. Hayter's response to the fan base out there is pretty long and explanatory, which I'm sure a lot of you Metal Gear fans are desperately wanting one right now. You can find it in its entirety at Twitlonger. It was posted on April 1st, and unfortunately it's not an April fools joke I'm afraid. But at least it'll set your mind at ease better than it was beforehand.
David, you will be missed my friend. Thank you for the long amount of time that you did Snake's voice. It's something that will not be forgotten, and even though Metal Gear is moving in another direction, every time Solid Snake speaks a word, you will come to mind.
