And why is Cloud gaming the future of video games? Simply put, it allows the player to play current day games without the need for a console or computer. The server acts as the processing power, and the user need only use the controller to play whatever they want, when they want. Something like the way video on demand works these days, except with games. Not only that, there seem to be more and more cool attachments and devices you can use with it. G-Cluster is one company that has brought this concept to the table, and each year they seem to get better and better. The recent release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 on their platform is another example of how much better they are getting as time goes along.
So what does this mean for the future of games? For starters, it means that Hideo Kojima likes Sony, and has some plans for the PS4, but it certainly will not end there he said. In a recent interview, he mentioned that he is seeing a good future for cloud gaming and its multiple devices, which is why he will not limit his projects to any one platform. Here is his response about it:
“It’s a tough question to answer. Obviously, I do like Sony, I respect them and I have a lot of things in common with their way of thinking. I think the future of gaming is with cloud technology and cloud gaming. I love Sony, I have a Sony camera, but I think if you’re going to enter the cloud generation then there will be a lot of different devices involved and a lot of different ways to interact with that game world. I don’t want to limit it to any one platform, but I’m not going to say I’m not going to participate in the events. This time [for the PlayStation Meeting], I kind of would have liked to participate, but I was here tending to Rising’s world tour.”
The response was from a recent issue of Edge when asked the question about making an exclusive PS4 title when it debuts later this year. If cloud gaming keeps taking off like it has this past year, I might be jumping on the "games" on demand bandwagon myself soon. It's a great concept to be able to play modern day games without the need for expensive computer hardware and new game console prices to boot. Here below is what G-Cluster's cloud gaming platform looks like in case you want to get in on the action. Also check out a nice video of it below as well.
