Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Strong Language, the new Metal Gear game Rising Revengeance gets an "M" rating from the ESRB

The verdict is now in. There has almost always been a controversy over violence in video games, and how they might affect certain individuals. That particular audience is usually of the young variety. This is no exception when it comes to the latest Metal Gear game Rising Revengeance. Why is that?, because the ESRB has given it an "M" rating, which is for a "Mature" audience. Their reason of course is the fact that Rising Revengeance contains Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Strong Language. This particular post I'm doing when it comes to reporting this latest news piece is basically aimed at the parents out there who might have children that are looking forward to the new Metal Gear game. Here is the complete explanation directly from the official ESRB website:

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Platform: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Rating:
     Mature Rating Symbol

Content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language

Rating summary: This is an action game in which players assume the role of Raiden, a cybernetic soldier on a mission to stop a futuristic terrorist organization. Players use swords, guns, and rocket launchers to kill enemy cyborgs and giant robots in frenetic melee-style combat. Players can also employ stealth tactics (e.g., impaling/stabbing enemies close-up) to eliminate targets. Combat is fast-paced and frenetic, with realistic gunfire, explosions, and cries of pain. Exaggerated blood splashes occur frequently when enemies are injured, and slow-motion effects highlight various finishing moves (e.g., dismembering enemies). Some cut scenes also depict intense acts of violence: a character impaled in slow motion; a close-up angles of dismemberment; a character's heart ripped out. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” can be heard in dialogue.

So there you have it, the official rating and explanation of rating straight from ESRB. I think this is probably the first time in the four years I've been blogging here that I did a post about a video game rating. But then again, I try to cover just about everything Konami related. So for those of you who still haven't seen some good footage of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, go ahead and check out one of the most recent game play videos below to an idea if this new title is right for your child. Different parents sometimes have different viewpoints about what their offspring should or should not be exposed to, so the ESRB rating was basically born out of a necessity. Enjoy the video below and have fun!  It's an interviewwith Yuji Korekado about the making of Rising Revengeance and some game play footage. Cheers.
