The old Konami code for the classic Contra game strikes again, and this time it lands in the lap of Android and iOS users for Harbinger Wars: Planet Death

The old Konami code is one of those bad pennies that always turns up somehow, only it isn't bad at all. Those of you who are like me and grew up during the 80's understand the code very well. It's what gave you the ability to actually make it through difficult games like Gradius, Contra, and LifeForce. Those are some classics that are never meant to be forgotten, and the Konami code is no exception to the rule. The code has turned up yet again, and this time it's for a new iOS and Android game called Harbinger Wars: Planet Death. This is one of those titles that's actually meant to have that look and feel of the classic NES 8-bit games we grew up with that bring a tear to our eyes. It is being released the same time as the famous Harbinger comic book miniseries.

The CEO and Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani made mention of the Konami code that will come implemented into the game and suggests to make use of it. Does this mean we will  have 30 men in Harbinger Wars: Planet Death? It could very well mean something totally different, as the Konami code has been known to do quite a number of different things besides giving the player a bunch of extra men. Take a look at a few images below to get an idea of what the comic series looks like. If you're a comic fan you might get a kick out of it.

Did someone at Google sneak the old Konami code into their Pixel Chromebook or are they just a fan?

Let me take you back a few years, I mean way back, to 1985 when Gradius first graced our world with its side scrolling shooter goodness. If you played that one you remember how difficult it can be. A certain code we all know and grew up with came to the rescue for it. Do you remember what it was? Of course you do, the famous Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, START. The same code was also used in other games as well, such as Contra, and LifeForce. Two other games that might have been difficult for some, but with the addition of 30 extra men, how can you fail now? The Konami code has caused a ripple effect and became so widely known that here we are in 2013 and many people still remember it. I guess there are some things that even time can't wash away.

Now it seems that someone or some software programmer at Google is also a fan of Contra and Gradius/LifeForce. Why is that? Because they put the darn Konami code into their awesome Pixel Chromebook! This cool Easter Egg gift was likely done by someone, male or female, that obviously grew up in the 80s and just like you and me, loves Konami games! That's quite alright by me, and it makes me want one of those cool Pixel Chromebook laptops, which has been called the Lamborghini of laptops, and for a good reason too. That sucker runs about $1,300 just for the Wi-Fi only version. The full Verizon 4G setup adds another $200 I believe to the price tag, and then you have to sign up for a plan just for that. Anyway, getting back to the 30 extra men code.

Take a look below at the light sequence on the Pixel Chromebook and you'll see that the LED lights are flashing the code itself. From what I understand even Google themselves aren't commenting on the Easter Egg Konami code. But who cares, it's still darn cool. For those of you who want to take a walk back in time with Gradius and Contra, take a look at a couple of videos that are basically speed runs through the whole game if you want to check them out. Code or no code, not a bad couple of videos.

The new Wii U system makes use of the old Konami code? Really?

Thứ Ba, 20 tháng 11, 2012 | 0 nhận xét

Well, yes and no. But this brings back really fond memories. It seems that if you have a Wii U system, and a Netflix account, signing out or disconnecting from it requires you to input the old Konami code, or rather most of it with 3 extra commands. Your sign out code is "Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up. Yes, you saw right, there is no B, A, Start. That's what it would normally be if it were the entire and *true* natural version of the old Konami code, which was famous for games like LifeForce, Contra, and Gradius for getting full firepower and 30 extra men in the game.

I plan on getting a Wii U system myself pretty soon. Mostly because on its main focuses are also on classic games like the ones I just mentioned, as well as some Castlevania goodness. Check out the Wii U video below which showcases some of its beauty. Cheers.
