How Big Boss in the Metal Gear saga has evolved over the years

This is an interesting article I was reading at GamingBolt today, and it featured how "Big Boss" has evolved over the years of the Metal Gear series. Now that we have the inclusion of the the new Metal Gear Ground Zeroes, with Big Boss in it, which version came first. They seem to answer that question in the right particular order. First there was an appearance in Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (Naked Snake), then again in Peace Walker, and now we have Ground Zeroes, which is next, and then followed by Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots.
